Printer Cables

Thursday 14th August 2008. I had a call yesterday from a regular customer. He was shopping in a well known electrical high street store (rhymes with "Ruby Murrey's") and was looking for a new printer in their sale. I have always made it known that we offer free advice on printers and consumables whether you purchase a printer from us or anywhere else. Our advice is always look at cost of ownership over the next couple of years you are likely to have your new printer -not just the purchase price. Its a minefield these days and the only way you can tell if a printer is going to be okay is if you know about its running costs - thats where we come in. Anyway my customer was browsing the store while on the phone to me asking what certain models were like for cartridges and I quite happily gave him my 'expert opinion' on the printers he was looking at. It became apparent that he wasnt alone while talking to me and I soon realised that the other voice chipping into the conversation was actually the poor salesman from the store doing his best to be accomodating to his customer while this guy on the other end of the phone was doing the same (me). Anyway we settled on an Epson multifunction that was reduced in the sale and would do the job as long as he purchased a certain brand of compatibles for it (see last post). It was then that the salesman swooped in for the kill with the comment "Have you got a cable for it"? He then proceeded to offer my customer a USB cable for "Just another £12.95" and would he like some ink too. Now I know its something very annoying to buy a new product and get home to realise it wont work without buying something else as well but £12.95! You can tell where the store makes its profit. I told him to refuse the offer of a cable (I supplied him one for £2.00) and just get the printer and go. Its a shame the guys you rely upon to give you advice can rip you off so easily, makes you wonder how often you get duped in other areas of life too, extended warranties etc that you feel compelled to purchase in case you kick yourself in the future when the washing machine kicks the bucket.
Image Tek are proud to offer a 100% Honesty Guarantee to our customers - we might not make lots of extra money and work for free but hopefully its pays off in the long run with customers trusting our advice.
